The Small Munsterlander has a strong and harmonious build of medium size,
showing balanced proportions with a lot of quality and elegance. The Small
Munsterlander has a distinguished head that displays proper ‘type’ of the breed.
In upright posture the dog displays flowing outlines with horizontally carried tail.
Its front legs are well feathered, the hind legs with breeches, and the tail has a
distinct flag. Its glossy coat should be straight or slightly wavy, dense and not too
long. Its movement is harmonious and far reaching.
The Small Munsterlander is tough,
strongly built, elegant, and full of
nobility, with much self
confidence. As a hunting dog it is
an extremely versatile hunting dog
which combines intelligence,
desire, and devotion enabling him
to quickly adapt to the varied
terrain or quarry and his master's
preference of hunting method.
Typical characteristics of the dog
are diligent ingenuity during field
work, solid pointing instinct,
meticulous tracking ability, great
endurance—even under difficult
climatic conditions. It has a great
love for retrieving, and enthusiasm
for water work, tenacity on the
track, and easy handling.
